I used to read an average of 80 books a year (see yearlyreads.wordpress.com ). It started because of an online book group I was in called “Book-a-Week”, where we all had the goal of reading 52 books per year, and keeping track of what we read. I was a charter member.
These days, I’m lucky if I finish 12 books a year. But I do want to read more. I love learning. 🥰
There are no strict rules that we need to read 50 books in a year. The goal is actually just to read. And finishing 12 books a year is a great one, Jenn! Keep it up.
You can either read them at the same session. Or you can read thriller after philosophy. For example, I read non-fiction for 5 pages. Then, in order for me to not be bored with one book, I then continue reading fiction for 15 pages.
Last year, while I was in Class 11, I read 50 books, which I'm proud of. Now that I'm in Class 12, I'm still on the journey of reading another 50 by the end of this year. Reading has always been something I love deeply, but just a week ago, I started to feel like I might not be able to keep up this year.
But after reading this post, I feel hopeful again. It reminded me that it's still possible that I can make time for what I love, and honestly, there’s no better feeling than getting lost in a good book.
I saw the sentence "That thought hurt, because there are so many books I want to read."
You need to remove that.
I experience the same thing. I force myself with goals of "reading a book every week." And guess what? No enjoyment, only feeling like a slave. And if I fail, I get even more hurtful, just like you said.
You can do it! But remember to focus on the process, not on the result. You can achieve everything. The goal is just doing it one by one or even starting small and then gradually increasing the goal.
For example, one book a month. then one book biweekly. And so on.
I've removed that sentence. Thanks so much for the motivation! I enjoy reading fiction, but sometimes it feels like a guilty pleasure. I'm trying to broaden my horizons.

Love the motivation, Jenn!

Thank you for your helpful messages ☺️
Does ”A philosophy book followed by a thriller.“ mean reading them at the same time?
You're welcome, Alyssa!

Thank you for your response!
I think that’s a good way for me
Thanks for your consistent and useful messages!
Thank you for reading too, Dr. Satish!
