Resting Won't Fix Your Burnout As a Writer, Try This Instead
The only thing that causes burnout is not the writing itself, but how you perceive it after writing.

Burnout is where you feel not only motivated to write but also to do something else.
Like washing the dishes, cleaning your room, etc.
But this cause could come from your writing. It could be that you work too much, which leads you to burnout. This not only affects your writing but your daily life.
Eventually, if you keep forcing yourself like this, you might end up depressed.
And that bottom pit of depression is not a great place to go.
I LOVE WRITING
This is in the era of 2023, where I love writing every day.
Well, I don’t write every day, but I just imagine myself writing for hours and hours. I have other obligations, such as college and classes. But whenever it’s finished, it’s my time to write.
That love doesn’t last long.
I found myself bored and didn’t write at all, but I forced myself. I just kept on writing even though I didn’t want to. And after I write, I just keep on going, achieving another goal.
I have no brakes.
Then I tried to take breaks and rest. If I keep writing with this kind of motivation, I won’t last long in my writing journey. But it didn’t work.
I kept on finding time to “heal” and rest. But the more I sought out resting time, the more I just kept on feeling burned out. Until I realized it wasn’t resting that work.
It was acknowledgment.
Common Burnout Strategy
You might have listened to this many times:
Set realistic goals.
Create a writing schedule
Prioritize rest and recovery.
Celebrate small wins.
Read books
Join community
Revisit your ‘why.’
And all of those works.
But not effectively.
What works?
The only thing that kept us from burning out was the lack of acknowledgement.
Keep on finding new goals, chasing new things, and continuing new work will lead you to burnout. Fast enough that you couldn’t realize you were burned out.
The problem is that burnout is pretty hard to recover from.
You might need a couple of weeks to recover while your writing has been abandoned.
Start doing this
Now, in order to fix that, you only need one thing: acknowledgement.
Acknowledge that you have written 800 words. Feel that accomplishment. Just like celebrating small wins, but more than that.
Yourself is not a slave.
It’s a partner, a vehicle, that will eventually drive you to the goals you want to achieve.
So, rather than focusing on the next goals and the next one, try to acknowledge what you have achieved. It could be every night or every week. And make sure you’re really acknowledging it.
Start doing this, and you’ll realize that you just need a little pat on the back.
Because you are doing great!
