How a Month of Daily Writing Transformed My Life

Writing consistently doesn't only change your writing skills, but your life too.

They say writing can change your life.

They say writing can make you succeed.

They say writing can make you consistent.

I don’t know if those are true or not. 

I didn’t believe it at first and just started writing. I started writing a year ago. I’m not consistent. I write every week and sometimes once a month. 

That’s pretty bad, especially when you are trying to improve your writing.

Readers love consistent publishing. 

That’s why I tried to write every week, at least once. 

The problem is that I didn’t really prioritize it. I just write when I want to, and sometimes I forget to write for weeks. This is why I have decided to write every day and start prioritizing it.

I tried to write every day, and it’s working. I did write for 7 days straight, or even 14 days in a row. But I’m not disciplined enough; sometimes I play games or watch YouTube. 

I was consistent, but not disciplined. This led me to become a procrastinator again and again. I avoid writing and start to fall into instant gratification, such as watching YouTube and scrolling on Instagram. I then had enough. 

I want to focus and professionally write online. 

I need to build my consistency and become disciplined in my writing sessions. This is where I decided to write every day with sessions.

I write every day and aim to write 90 minutes every day. 

I have breaks, but I take breaks after 90 minutes of deep-focus writing.

My plan was to write for 12 minutes in the first week and then gradually increase it until week 8. In Week 8, I already have to write 90 minutes every session with no excuse. I still allow myself to get distracted because I’m still focusing on showing up every day. 

I was focusing on becoming consistent. 

Then I was amazed at what I learned.

The power of consistency

I didn’t know that writing every day can make you better in any other aspect of life. 

I became more aware of my thoughts. I became aware of my emotions. I start to listen to myself, which leads me to understand myself better. I’ve started to gain confidence in my ability to change my life. 

I noticed bad habits that I had that were holding me back from consistently writing every day. 

There are bad habits such as scrolling on Instagram, watching YouTube videos, and playing games. I realize that I was pretty addicted to those bad habits, which I was aware of from writing every day. I did work out at the gym too. I thought that I might quit at weeks 3 and beyond. 

Well, I did consistently show up every day and destroy each of my workout sessions.

At first, I was focusing on improving my body to become stronger. 

Then, over time, I became more interested in becoming consistent. It makes me love working out. I love to become stronger. I love to become healthy. I love becoming consistent. Then my goal of having an aesthetic body faded away. 

I still want that, but I focus more on being consistent and showing up every day.

Consistency is a skill

It’s nothing to do with writing, reading, or everything else that you do. 

Consistency is just a skill that you practice every day and every time you show up. At first, I didn’t realize that consistency is a skill. I’m just focusing on writing every day.

Then, over time, my consistency muscle became stronger. 

I become more consistent in waking up, doing some morning and night routines, and any other good habits that I build.

Other than that, I gained more confidence to change my life. I always plan to change my life for years. There might be 20+ plans that I’ve made regarding schedule, habits, writing, reading, and more. 

Even so, those didn’t work, and what works is actually doing the thing.

This is why I recommend you start writing every day.

Writing every day can help you become more consistent and improve your life. You might be struggling with bad habits. With writing every day, you can change your life because writing includes understanding of mind and body. 

You notice why you write, how you write, and what you write. 

This gives you the confidence to continuously improve your life.

I’ll share with you how I write.

How do I write every day?

1. I start as small as I can

I always share my guide to building a writing habit by starting as small as you can.

I suggest starting with time. Make a convenient writing environment and start writing for about 10 minutes, or maybe less. Find what’s best for you.

The smaller it is, the easier it will be for you to overcome procrastination.

Remember! 

We want to show up every day.

2. Gradually increase the difficulty

Start by increasing your difficulty.

You might write every day for 10 minutes. Start the next week with 15 minutes, or maybe more.

You don’t have to improve it in the next week. You can increase it in the next month or find what’s comfortable for you.

Do not overestimate yourself. You might set the bar too high. You might improve your writing session from 10 minutes to 60 minutes right away. That most likely won’t work.

Start gradually increasing it so you can maintain progress every day and make a positive chain.

3. Maintain and evaluate

I suggest evaluating every week.

Every week, evaluate what’s wrong and what’s right. You don’t have to evaluate every day. Start every week. This helps you become better in the next week. Other than that, you can reward yourself every week to become more motivated to write.

The key to writing every day is starting small and gradually increasing difficulty. 

Consistency is built by showing up every day and being aware of doing it every day. Without awareness, you might not have built anything.
